DURANGO, CO- Colorado Christian closed their four-game series with Fort Lewis with a doubleheader on Sunday. CCU was in control from start to finish as they claimed wins in both contests 9-3 and 8-0.
GAME ONE
The offense got going in the second inning of Sunday's first contest, as Logan Menzies destroyed a ball for a two-run homer over the right field wall. Kenzie Middleton then singled in another run for a 3-0 lead.
Kenzie notched another RBI in the fourth with a single before Kayla Middleton singled home two more. Leah Garcia tallied an RBI groundout as the lead grew to 7-0. Three runs in the fourth and fifth were not enough for the home team as a Kaila Eastburn double and Mia Stankiewicz sac fly gave the Cougars a comfortable 9-3 victory.
Emma Duncan improved to 9-0 with another victory in 4.2 innings pitched, while Hanna Espinoza closed things out in the final 2.1 innings with no hits allowed.
GAME TWO
CCU got right to work in game two, as Kayla deposited a two-run bomb down the left field line in the first. Camryn Quilling tallied an RBI single in the second, followed by another RBI from Kayla with a groundout. Garcia singled in another as it quickly became a 5-0 advantage for CCU.
Menzies scored on a fielder's choice in the third, and Sami Edwards continued the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the fourth. Menzies put the exclamation point on the victory with an RBI single in the fourth that scored Eastburn to make it 8-0. The Cougars closed out the Skyhawks to take the run-rule victory by a final of 8-0.
Eastburn saw her record improve to 6-0 with a complete game shutout on just three hits allowed with four strikeouts.
Colorado Christian will host their conference home opener against Colorado Mesa on March 2 at 12 p.m. MST with game two to follow at 2 p.m. MST.
