GOLDEN, CO- Colorado Christian headed to nearby Colorado School of Mines on Saturday afternoon for a non-conference matchup. The Cougars took an early lead, but the Orediggers clawed their way back and eventually pulled away for a 17-5 victory.
Aaron Morgan started things off quickly with a two-run single for a 2-0 lead in the second. Landry Hamm then notched an RBI sac fly as the lead grew to 3-0. Sawyer Shepherd then scored on an error as the visitors raced to a 4-0 advantage.
A four-run inning from Mines leveled things after three innings, but a response came from Kade Carney who bunted and forced an errant throw as Caden Walton raced home for the 5-4 lead. From there, Mines tied it at 5 after four innings and took control in the later innings to pull away for a 17-5 victory.
Saxton Sorenson got the start on the mound, showing strong stuff as he struck out 7 in 4.1 innings of work. Morgan led the offense with a pair or RBI to pace his team.
The Cougars will take on Minot State on March 3 at Assembly Athletic Complex, home of the MSU Denver Roadrunners, at 4:30 p.m. MST.
