Cougars Fly Past Eagles for Third Straight Series Sweep

CHADRON, NE- Colorado Christian finished up their series at Chadron State with a doubleheader on Friday. CCU showed why they are the #8 team in the country, displaying gritty play in a 10-8 victory before run-ruling the Eagles 8-0 in game two.

GAME ONE
The Cougars faced adversity in the first game as Chadron State jumped on top 4-0 through the first two innings. Camryn Quilling got her team on the board with a solo homer to begin the third inning, and a Kenzie Middleton double made it 4-2. Kaila Eastburn blasted a two-run homer as the game quickly became tied at four.

The Eagles tallied a pair of runs in their half of the third, but once again the Cougars responded. Kayla Middleton tied the game with a two RBI single, and a pair of costly errors allowed Sami Edwards to score before Eastburn picked up another two RBI on a single. Samaria Roope singled in another run as the lead stretched to 10-6. The home team rallied for two more runs, but it was not enough as CCU held on for the 10-8 victory.

The Cougars used a committee in the circle, as Eastburn notched the win with 4.1 innings pitched followed by Emma Duncan with 1.2 innings of work and Elyse McMullin with the final inning. Eastburn paced the offense with an explosive four RBI game.

GAME TWO
Eastburn continued her tear at the plate, quickly plating a run with an RBI single in the first. Cheyenne Stark singled and a run scored on an Eagles error in the second. Stark provided a massive boost in the fourth, launching a huge three-run homer to make it 5-0.

The Middleton sisters put the icing on the cake in the fourth as Kayla blasted a solo homer before Kenzie uncorked a two-run blast as the lead grew to 8-0. The pitching was lights out throughout as they held the Eagles scoreless in an 8-0 mercy-rule win.

Hanna Espinoza picked up win number 10 on the season, going the full five innings while scattering five hits, a strikeout and 7 groundouts for the win. Stark had a breakout game, notching four RBI including the huge homer to lead her team.

CCU continue play on the road at New Mexico Highlands on April 6, with the first doubleheader set for 12 and 2 p.m. MST.
