Cougars See Memorable Season Come to a Close at South Central Regionals

TYLER, TX- Colorado Christian began day two of the NCAA South Central Regionals on Friday with a matchup against host UT Tyler. Following a defeat at the hands of the Patriots, CCU unfortunately saw an unforgettable season come to a close with a loss to Colorado Mesa in the afternoon game in Texas.

GAME ONE
The first game of the day began with a scoreless first inning, but the Tyler offense got going in the second. A three-run shot and two RBI single gave the host team a 5-0 advantage after two.

Kaila Eastburn scored a run in the fourth on a throwing error, but the offense could never quite find their stride against the Patriots. A huge fifth inning from UT Tyler saw them pull away for the run-rule victory 12-1.

GAME TWO

In the second game of the day, the Cougars faced off against familiar rival Colorado Mesa, a team they had beaten the day before. This time the stakes were much higher as each team faced elimination with a loss.

Freshman phenom Elyse McMullin was back in the circle and dealing. The two teams battled to find offense but for the first four innings, neither team could get any runs across as the pitching was lights out.

The Mavericks finally broke through in the fifth, as a fielder's choice and two-run double gave them the 3-0 lead. The offense for CCU continued to battle, but they could not find any run production. A two-run homer in the seventh all but sealed it as Colorado Christian could not mount the comeback in an eventual 5-0 defeat.

McMullin showed how bright her future is, going the full seven innings with a pair of strikeouts. Elyse, Kayla Middleton and Sami Edwards all tallied hits for their team.

Another memorable season comes to a close as the Cougars finished with an overall record of 50-10 as they made their third straight regionals appearance. The future appears to be bright for Larry Hays and Colorado Christian as a number of returners and youth look to continue the legacy of excellence the departing seniors have established in Lakewood.
