PUEBLO, CO- Colorado Christian tipped off their season on Friday morning as they took on nationally ranked #13 Lubbock Christian at Massari Arena in Pueblo. The Cougars battled to a 28-28 tie at halftime, but the Lady Chaps managed to pull away for a 63-53 victory in the end.
After a defensive struggle to start the first few minutes of the game,
Hayley Luther scored the first points of the 2025-26 campaign with a layup.
Ja'Shelle Johnson and Luther scored the next six points for CCU as they raced ahead 8-4. Amaya Feliz connected from downtown, and Felix closed the quarter with a layup to send her team ahead 13-9 after one.
The offense continued to catch fire as a Johnson layup and Luther three-pointer saw CCU double up the Lady Chaps 18-9 early in the second quarter. LCU began chipping away at the lead, but
Jordon Heckert sent her team ahead six with a three to make it 26-20. A late run from Lubbock Christian saw them knot the game up at 28 apiece heading to halftime.
LCU came out strong in the third, scoring the first seven points of the quarter to take control. The Lady Chaps never trailed again despite a great fight from the Cougars.
Josie Grosdidier hit a jumper to cut the lead to five, and a jumper from
Ezra Simonich with 2:34 to go in the third cut the deficit to just three. A late three-pointer from Heckert saw the final period arrive with LCU ahead 45-40.
Felix immediately nailed a jumper to bring the Cougars back within three, but that was the closest it would get the rest of the fourth quarter. The Lady Chaps pushed the lead to ten with several buckets and defensive stops, but CCU did not go down without a fight.
Addison Wragge hit a nice jumper with her left hand, and Johnson connected on a midrange jumper and a three. In the end, despite a very back and forth battle, the Cougars fell 63-53 to a talented LCU squad.
Four Cougars posted double-digits points, led by Johnson with 14. Luther and Heckert tallied 11 points apiece while Felix posted 10.
Elise Grosdidier led on the boards with six rebounds, followed by
