CCU Fall to Nationally Ranked Mavericks

LAKEWOOD, CO- Colorado Christian dropped a hard‑fought 64–56 decision to Western Colorado on Thursday night at the CCU Event Center, as a strong second‑half defensive effort was not quite
enough to overcome the shooting struggles. The Cougars could not comeback after the first half deficit, and Mesa continued to run away with it in the second half.

First half sets the tone
CCU comes out sticking close with Mesa for the first quarter but quickly loses it by the second quarter. The half finished at 45 Mesa 22 CCU. CCU quickly got into foul trouble putting
Mesa into prime positioning to pull away going 12-12 from the free throw line. Mesa's Olivia Reed Thyne put up 7 rebounds, 1 assist and 15 points in the first half. CCU's Jordon Heckert put up 10
points and 1 assist. Coming out of the second half CCU will need to limit fouls and shoot better from the field as they are 9-28.

Heckert and Luther lead the offense
Jordon Heckert ended the game with 12 points 1 rebound and one assist while playing good defense forcing a couple turnovers. Hayley Luther ended with 11 points, 5 rebounds, and
shooting 50% from the 3 point line. This was not enough to come out with the win.

Keys in the box score
Colorado Christian shot 17-for-53 from the field, 6-for-21 from three, and 3-for-5 at the line while totaling 25 rebounds (5 offensive), 11 assists, and 17 turnovers to score 43 points,
whereas Colorado Mesa went 24-for-59 overall, 13-for-34 from three, and 17-for-28 on free throws with 48 rebounds (16 offensive), 18 assists, and 15 turnovers to reach 78 points.
