ALVA, OK- The Cougars continued play in Oklahoma on Saturday with a doubleheader against the Rangers. In a back and forth affair in game one, the hosts used a big late hit to claim a 16-12 victory. Game two was not as close as NWOSU ran away with a 13-0 victory.
GAME ONE
Connor Laeng started the scoring for the Cougars in the third inning as he singled to center field to plate
Gavin Acosta. The Rangers responded in their half of the third with a huge eight run inning to take an 8-1 advantage.
The deficit did not stop the CCU offense from rallying as
Aidan Welsh mashed a solo homer to left field. Acosta followed with a two-run homer to tighten the gap, and
Major Maydon uncorked a huge three-run bomb to make it 8-7. Acosta singled home another run as the Cougars roared back to tie things up at 8.
Nathan Owens came home on a wild pitch as an 8-1 deficit turned into a 9-8 lead.
Maydon bashed his second home run of the day in the 6th, a two-run job that made it 11-8 Cougars. The Rangers managed to bring things closer with a pair of 6th inning runs, but
Gregory Rangel blasted a homer to make it 12-10. An untimely error in the seventh allowed the hosts to tie the game at 12-12, and the decisive blow came in the eighth as they unleashed a grand slam to take a 16-12 lead that was too much to overcome in a game one defeat.
Maydon paced the offense with 5 RBI on a pair of homers, and Acosta had 3 RBI with a homer as well.
GAME TWO
The second contest of the day did not go the Cougars way as the Rangers jumped ahead 9-0 after three innings and never looked back as they ran away with a 13-0 victory.
