Day Two of Softball Season Sees Pair of Narrow Defeats for CCU

IRVINE, CA- Colorado Christian continued their season on Saturday with a pair of games against San Francisco State and Cal State East Bay. The offense never quite found their rhythm on this day as they suffered a pair of defeats by final scores of 3-1 and 5-2.

GAME ONE
The Gators jumped ahead 2-0 in the first inning as they found early life from their bats. Rachel Williams got her team back within a run in the third with a sacrifice fly, but that was all the Cougars could manage to plate. One more run from SFSU in the sixth took the game to its' final score of 3-1 as CCU suffered their first loss of the young season.

Kaila Eastburn pitched the entire game, allowing just three runs with 6 strikeouts.

GAME TWO
The Cougars debuted their brand new white jerseys with powder blue numbers and pinstripes on Saturday, and they had a chance to feature them under the lights at the Stadium at the Great Park against Cal State East Bay.

Peyton Marvel started the scoring as she raced home in the first to put her team ahead early. The Pioneers struck back in the fourth with a pair of runs, and they tacked on three more in the seventh to create some distance from CCU.

Trailing 5-1, Camryn Quilling doubled to lead off the seventh, and Sarah Dollerschell walked to put two runners on. Marvel made it to first on a fielder's choice as runners sat on first and third with one out. Elyse McMullin singled in a run as CCU appeared to be threatening to make a comeback. However, CSUEB managed to get the final two outs to close out the 5-2 victory.

Emma Duncan started in the circle, pitching 4.1 innings with 2 runs allowed and a strikeout.

CCU will close play at the Concordia Kickoff Classic on February 2 against #23 Cal State San Marcos at 9:30 a.m. MST.
