CCU Downed by Bronchos in Series Opening Doubleheader

EDMOND, OK- The Cougars began their series at Central Oklahoma with a twinbill on Friday afternoon. CCU dropped a tight 3-1 contest to start, and after leading early, ultimately fell in game two 6-3.

GAME ONE
Brady Ritzmann was back on the mound in game one, and he turned in another stellar performance. The senior struck out 5 Bronchos in 4.2 innings of work to limit the hosts to just three runs. They scored first in the 3rd with an RBI groundout and runs in the 4th and 5th made it 3-0 UCO. Mason Hagel-Pitt brought a run back in the sixth with a solo homer to centerfield, but that was all the Cougars could muster in the seven-inning 3-1 defeat.

GAME TWO
CCU took an early lead in the second contest of the day, another seven-inning affair. William Brassil cranked a solo homer to right centerfield in the second, and Gavin Acosta showed off the power with a solo shot of his own to left field in the third.

A four run third inning from the Bronchos gave them a 4-2 advantage, and they stretched the lead to 6-2 in the fourth with a homer. Nathan Owens brought back a run with an RBI single in the fifth, but the two teams battled without any more runs scored as the hosts took a 6-3 victory in game two.

Chad Naf was the starter on the mound, while Zachary Hill put in 3.1 innings of work. Brassil and Acosta got the offense going with a pair of homers.

With Sundays' scheduled contest being cancelled due to weather, CCU will close their series with Central Oklahoma February 15 with an early first pitch time of 9 a.m. MST.
