Colorado Christian Down Skyhawks in Final Road Game of the Season

DURANGO, CO- The Cougars closed their road slate for the season on Saturday afternoon with a matchup at Fort Lewis. Led by a dominant second and fourth quarter, CCU ran away with the victory by a final score of 71-56.

Elise Grosdidier got started right away with a quick layup, but FLC pulled ahead by 7 late in the quarter. Victoria Perez drilled a three-pointer to cut into the deficit while a layup from Josie Grosdidier sent the teams to the second quarter with the hosts leading 15-11.

The second quarter belonged to the Cougars as Josie made an early jumper and Nicole Bowlin put in consecutive layups for the two-point lead at 17-15. The shots continued to fall as Perez connected on a jumper and Bowlin sank a three-pointer. The defense put the clamps on the Skyhawks, allowing just 7 second quarter points as a layup from Josie saw the visitors take a 29-22 lead to halftime.

The third was a back and forth affair as Hayley Luther threw the first punch with a three. She connected on another moments later and a layup from Elise saw the lead stretch to 37-22. Fort Lewis refused to go down without a fight, scoring a flurry of points in the second half of the quartet to eventually draw themselves to within 44-40 heading to the final quarter of play.

Much like the fourth quarter, the Cougars took over in the fourth starting with a Dasiya Jones layup. Bowlin converted a three-point play to start to stretch the lead again, and an Elise layup and pair of Perez free throws sent CCU ahead 61-46. Perez made one last three-pointer as part of a 27-16 quarter while Mia Guest iced things with a three to send CCU home happy with a 71-56 victory.

Bowlin was one of four players in double digit scoring, pouring in a team high 18 points. Elise chipped in 14 while Perez and Luther had 12 apiece.

CCU will now return home for a matchup with Regis on February 27 at 6 p.m. MST.
