RAPID CITY, SD- A hot Colorado Christian team traveled to South Dakota Mines for an important RMAC matchup on Saturday. Led by a double-double from
Dasiya Jones, CCU claimed the needed victory 59-48 for their third straight win.
Nicole Bowlin and Jones scored quick layups, but from there the pace slowed down significantly for both teams.
Victoria Perez broke a scoring drought with a three-pointer, and after jumpers from Jones and
Elise Grosdidier, the visitors held a 13-8 lead after quarter one.
Jones continued to dominate in the paint, putting in consecutive layups as part of an 8 point run from Dasiya alone.
Jenna Kendall connected on a jumper, while Bowlin put in a three of her own as halftime arrived with CCU leading 27-17.
Bowlin kept up her hot shooting from beyond the arc with another three-pointer, while a
Hayley Luther jumper and Jones layup had the Cougars on top 36-21. Jones closed the quarter with one more jumper for a 42-29 lead heading to the final quarter.
The Hardrockers managed to get the deficit down to single digits at nine points with 5:46 remaining, but they were never able to get any closer. Jones closed just like she started, hitting a pair of jumpers as she sealed a big victory for Colorado Christian 59-48.
Jones was unstoppable all night long, pouring in 26 points and 14 rebounds for a double-double. Bowlin chipped in 10 points while Perez spread the ball around for 7 assists. The win puts CCU in ninth place in the conference with a 6-8 RMAc record, just one place and one game out of the eighth and final qualifying seed for the RMAC tournament.
CCU will now return home for another huge RMAC tilt against CSU Pueblo on February 11 at 6 p.m. MST.
