DENVER, CO- The Cougars finished their series against MSU Denver on Sunday with a single contest from Assembly Athletic Complex. The game was tight for the majority of the contest, but in the end the Roadrunners ran away with a 15-5 victory.
A two-run homer in the first put MSUD on top, but
Major Maydon responded with a solo home run in the second to tighten the gap. A run in the fourth from Metro made it 3-1, but
Nathan Mensen and
Ethan Kang notched RBIs in the bottom half of the fourth to tie the game at 3-3.
Maydon scored to break the tie and give CCU the 4-3 lead, but MSU Denver answered with four in the fifth for a 7-4 lead.
Gavin Acosta launched a solo homer to left field in the fifth, but from there it was all Roadrunners. A big ninth capped a long string of runs as MSU Denver pulled away for the 15-5 victory.
Saxton Sorenson made a bit of history on Sunday, dealing out seven strikeouts to reach 167 on his career at CCU to become the all-time strikeout leader in the program, a huge achievement for the senior.
Colorado Christian has the next week off of competition before their home finale against Colorado School of Mines starting April 25 at 3 p.m. MST.
