PUEBLO, CO- The Cougars were on the road for the weekend, traveling to CSU-Pueblo for another conference match up. Despite a quick start, the Cougars would find themselves in a deficit they could never quite climb out of, losing 49-66.
It only took six seconds for
Jordon Heckert to get on the board, winning possession off the tip-off and driving to the rim for a quick 2-0 lead. A three pointer from Heckert a minute later would start the Cougars off hot, holding a 5-0 lead for several minutes into the game. Several back and forth buckets would leave the Cougars with a one point deficit 14-15 going into the second quarter.
Elise Grosdidier would open up the quarter with a quick jumper to put CCU up 16-15. The rest of the quarter would be all Thunderwolves, running rampant with no answer from the Cougars. CSU-Pueblo would outscore the Cougars 24-5 in the quarter, leading CCU to a 18 point deficit at half, 21-39.
CCU came out fighting in the second half, scoring a quick bucket and cutting the deficit to as much as  thirteen points under four minutes in the quarter. Some back and forth buckets from each side would leave the score 40-56 to the Thunderwolves entering the final quarter.
Heckert continued to be the bright spot for the Cougars as she opened up the fourth quarter with a fast break, followed by a three pointer from
Hayley Luther. 11 points would be the closest the Cougars could muster, as the Thunderwolves pulled away, closing the game and winning 49-66.
Heckert would lead the team in points (16), blocks (2), and assists (3).
Josie Grosdidier and
Amaya Felix would follow with 8 and 7 points.
The Cougars look to bounce back at home against MSU Denver on Thursday, January 15
th with tip off scheduled for 6pm MST in the CCU Event Center. Â
