Cougars Blank Menlo in 5-0 Shutout

Irvine, CA- Colorado Christian wrapped up play in the Concordia Kickoff Classic Sunday morning, improving to 4-1 after a victory over Menlo College. Displaying a disciplined offense and a dominant pitching performance, the Cougars shutout Menlo for the win 5-0.

After a quiet and scoreless first three innings, a breakthrough came in the top of the 4th, Elyse McMullin working a walk, followed by a double from Felesha LePenske. A sacrifice fly from Leah Garcia would allow the Cougars to jump to a 1-0 lead.

The fifth inning would see the lead grow for the Cougars, continuing to force the pressure on Menlo. Maya Schroeder singled and would steal second, before Sarah Dollerschell laid down a bunt and swiped second. A Kat Hanson fly would bring Schroeder home, before capitalizing on a Menlo throwing error to go up 3-0.

Late innings would see several miscues from Menlo would allow the Cougars to push the margin to 5-0, tacking on two unearned runs and punishing any mistake gifted to them.

Elyse McMullin was dominant in the circle, throwing a two hit shutout, needing just 80 pitches to lead Colorado Christian to the shutout victory. Felesha LePenske sparked the offense, going 2-for-3 with a double while helping set up the Cougars first run. Sarah Dollerschell would also use speed and execution to apply constant pressure to Menlo, scoring twice and contributing to multiple scoring innings.

The Cougars are back in action versus #3 Western Washington University, an early season test for the Cougs. First pitch is set for 12pm MST, action taking place in Lake Elsinore, CA as the Cougars look to continue a hot start to the season.
