Colorado Christian Fall in Series Finale in Oklahoma

EDMOND, OK - The Cougars closed out their weekend series against the Bronchos from the University of Central Oklahoma on Sunday. The bats couldn't get much action for CCU as the hosts took the full series sweep and won the game 7-2.

The Cougars were slow to get things going inside the batter box, as the first three batters got out to end the top half of the first quickly. Cody Hill got the nod to start on the mound for CCU, but the hosts took the early advantage and got runners on base and scored one run in the first to take the lead.

CCU would respond with Zach Valentine driving one down the left field line for a stand-up double, he would later get the sign to steal to third base and got there successfully. Cade Lacy stepped in and smacked a groundball to shortstop, and the fielder's choice allowed Valentine to come home to tie the game 1-1. The defense for CCU showed what they could do with a double play and a strikeout swinging to close out the bottom of the second very fast.

UCO took control of the game after that, scoring four runs in the next four innings and shutting down the Cougars' chances with excellent pitching and fielding. CCU would get another run on the scoreboard with Valentine coming in from a sacrifice fly from Zeke Bote. In the end, the Bronchos scored two more runs and closed out the game with the final score of 7-2, sweeping the Cougars.

Zachary Hill came into relief only allowing one run to score while on the mound, while Bote and Lacy each had a pair of RBI.

The Cougars will take next weekend off with conference play right around the corner. They will return to the diamond on February 27 in Golden to take on rivals Colorado School of Mines in a non-conference series with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m. MST.
