SAINT LEO, FL- The Cougars closed their series at Saint Leo on Sunday morning as they took on the Lions for the fourth and final time. After CCU grabbed an early lead, the hosts roared back to eventually claim a 12-3 victory.
Gregory Rangel got his team on the board in the first inning with an RBI single to score
Nathan Mensen. Saint Leo responded with four runs in their half of the first, and they tacked on more insurance with three runs in the second and a run in the third to make it 8-1.
Nathan Owens connected for a two-run homer in the fourth with
Ethan Kang on base as CCU narrowed the lead to 8-3. Unfortunately the Lions would go on to score four more runs sixth to seal the 12-3 victory.
Ben Crandall and
Austin DeMello were solid in relief, pitching the last two innings with no runs or hits allowed.
The Cougars are back in action as they once again hit the road to take on Central Oklahoma in Edmond, OK for a four-game set with the Bronchos beginning February 13 with first pitch at 2 p.m. MST.
