LAKE ELSINORE, CA- Colorado Christian closed play at the D2 West Coast Challenge on Sunday with a matchup against Cal State Bernardino.
Elyse McMullin was incredible throughout the contest as she tossed a near perfect complete game to lead her team to an 8-0 victory.
The game began as a pitchers duel as the Coyotes and Cougars did not allow a run through the first four innings of play. CCU broke through in the fifth, starting with a wild pitch that allowed
Abbie Walden to race home for the 1-0 lead.
Arriana Wright then smacked a double to plate McMullin, while she came around to score on an error as CCU suddenly led 3-0.
Maya Schroeder then lined a two-run single to cap a five run inning for the Cougars.
Peyton Marvel put the nail in the coffin, launching a massive three-run home run in the seventh to seal an impressive 8-0 victory.
McMullin was outstanding in the circle, allowing just a single hit in the sixth as she went the entire game for the victory with 3 strikeouts, 10 flyouts and 8 groundouts. Marvel and Schroeder provided the big hits to help their team pull away for the big victory with their clutch hits in the fifth and seventh.
Wright and
Felesha LePenske were named to the All-Tournament Team for their efforts throughout the D2 West Coast Challenge, while the Cougars finished runner-up at the tournament with a perfect 5-0 record.
The Cougars will now return home after 12 games in California and get ready for their RMAC Home Opener on February 20 as they host New Mexico Highlands at All Star Park at 12 and 2 p.m. MST.
