DENVER, CO- The Cougars wrapped up their four-game set at Regis with a doubleheader on Saturday in Denver. CCU rolled to a series sweep over the Rangers as they claimed two more wins by final scores of 13-4 and 14-4.
GAME ONE
Kat Hanson started on fire as she sent the first pitch she saw over the fence for a home run and a 1-0 lead for her team. A solo homer from Regis tied things after one inning, but CCU immediately answered in the second.
Paisley Williamson notched an RBI groundout, and
Elyse McMullin picked up a sac fly for the 3-1 advantage.
Peyton Marvel singled in a run in the third and an error allowed two more to score in the inning. The Rangers rallied back to within 6-3, but the Cougars offense continued to plate more runs with an explosive sixth inning.
Hanson smashed a two-run homer to start the sixth for her second home run of the game, and
Felesha LePenske followed with a solo shot of her own to make it 9-3. Williamson singled in a run, and McMullin tripled in another before
Arriana Wright notched a bunt single to plate a run. A late run in the seventh from Regis did not change the outcome in a 13-4 victory.
LePenske snagged the win with 4.0 innings pitched, while Hanson paced the team with a pair of homers and 3 RBI.
GAME TWO
The Cougars scored in the first inning once again in game two as McMullin doubled home Hanson. Just like game one the hosts responded to tie things at 1-1 after one inning of play.
Sarah Dollerschell notched a two RBI single in the second, and Wright drew a bases loaded walk for the 4-1 lead.
McMullin picked up an RBI groundout in the fourth, and Wright broke things open with a three-run bomb for the 8-1 advantage. The Rangers scored three in the fourth to cut the deficit to 8-4, but that would be as close as they would get the rest of the contest.
Marvel grew the lead with an RBI single in the fifth, and Dollerschell followed with an RBI groundout for a 10-4 lead. The Cougars would end things in run-rule fashion after six innings as they plated four runs in the sixth to pull away. Garcia singled in a run, while Marvel doubled home another for the 12-4 lead. A Williamson single plated a run, and she came home on an error to send the game to the final score of 14-4.
Espinoza notched the win to improve to 4-0 on the season in the circle, while Wright tallied 4 RBI followed by Dollerschell with 3 runs batted in.
Colorado Christian improved to 16-0 in conference play with the series sweep, and they will look to keep the momentum in RMAC competition going when they take on Colorado School of Mines in Golden March 21-22.
