LAKEWOOD, CO- Colorado Christian began their four-game set with Colorado Mesa at All Star Park on Friday afternoon. After a back and forth affair in the early innings, the #3 Mavericks pulled away for a run-rule 22-9 victory.
CMU got on the board first with a three-run homer in the first inning to take an early advantage. CCU responded well as
Nathan Mensen plated the first two runs of the game for his team with a two RBI double.
Nathan Owens laced a double of his own to tie the game, and
Cade Lacy singled home one more as CCU took a 4-3 lead into the second.
The Mavericks used a big second inning to go on top 9-4, but once again the Cougars found a way to answer back.
Gregory Rangel singled in a run in the second, while
Mason Hagel-Pitt connected on a two-run homer to bring his team within 9-7.
After a scoreless third from each team, CMU took control with an eight run fourth inning to seize momentum up 17-7. Colorado Christian showed their fight as
Lukas Hinze crushed a two-run bomb to right field in the fourth, but the talented offense for CMU proved too much as they pulled away for a 22-9 victory in seven innings.
Mensen got things started with his two-run double in the first, while Hagel-Pitt and Hinze used the long ball to great effect as they each tallied two-run shots.
The Cougars continue their series with Colorado Mesa tomorrow March 21 with a doubleheader (two 7-inning games) at 12 and 3 p.m. MDT.
