MONTROSE, CO- The Cougars continued play with their second tournament of the fall season at the San Juan Intercollegiate at Bridges Golf and Country Club the past two days. Playing two rounds on day one and a final 18 on day two, CCU surged to victory with an excellent team score of 35 under par to claim the team victory by 14 strokes.
Bradley Mulder claimed co-champion with Colorado Mesa's Henry Starr after the pair finished 12 under par through three rounds of competition.
ROUND ONE
Mulder came out firing in the first round of play, carding a tremendous 64 with seven birdies and an eagle on the par 5 9th.
Lance Christensen Jr. was not far behind with a 66 with seven birdies, while
Elijah Johnson was outstanding with a collegiate best 67 with six birdies.
Avery Jones followed with a 71, and
Jude Robbins finished with a 74.
Cameron Cantillana and
Tyler Debruyckere competed as individuals, carding a 72 and 77 respectively.
ROUND TWO
Facing another 18 on day one, it was Christensen Jr. who paced his team in round two with a 66 with eight birdies as he matched his round one total. Mulder fired a 68 with four birdies, while Robbins shot a bogey free 69 with a pair of birdies on the par 71 course. Johnson and Jones both went under par with 70s to close the day.
Debruyckere carded a 71, and Cantillana had a 75 in round two.
ROUND THREE
Mulder closed with five birdies to card a 67 as he tied for the individual title at -12. Christensen Jr. had five birdies to claim third place overall with a final round 70, while Johnson led the team on the day with another 67 with five birdies and an eagle on the par 5 15th. Jones shot a 70 to tie for 21st, while Robbins carded a 71 to tie for 37th.
A 69 from Cantillana with six birdies gave him 43rd place, and Debruyckere closed with a 73 to tie for 54th.
Overall the Cougars shot a total of 817 (268, 273, 276) to claim the victory at -35, their best total of the season by a large margin.
Colorado Christian will look to keep their momentum going when they compete at the SMU Bishop Invitational September 24-26 at The Home Course in Dupont, Washington.
