Colorado Springs, CO – The Cougars travelled to nearby UCCS for their season openers, several runners making their collegiate and CCU debut. Both teams would finish in 4^th place, a good stepping stone to start the season.

The men would open up the season in the 8k, the field primarily lined with many of the newcomers. Asher Found, the true freshman, would lead the Cougars, coming in 16^th overall with a time of 26:35. Colden Welsh was right behind in 17^th with a time of 26:40. Clayton Ackley found himself just seconds behind his teammates, coming in 20^th with a time of 26:49. Braden Palmer would start his career off strongly, the Cougars 4^th runner in 25^th place, with a time of 26:49. Tyler Schwarz would close out the top five for the Cougs, placing 25^th and running a total time of 27:04.

Jeremiah De La Cerda, Alex Stucky, Nolan Venti, Anders Hagen, Keegan Shirley, Nate Dillavou, and Kaleb Scott would all come in 39^th, 43^rd, 47^th, 48^th, 53^rd, 55^th, and 61^st respectively. The team would finish 4/5^th place overall.

Similarly, the women had several newcomers running the 6k, a freshman leading the way. Alyssa Houston would showcase her talent, leading the Cougars and finishing 12^th overall with a time of 18:41. Ava Greenwell, also a true freshman would finish 19^th with a time of 18:59. Kaylie Bookout followed behind in 26^th place with a time of 19:18. Grace McDevitt managed a 30^th place finish in a time of 19:25, with Emma Flowers closing out the top 5 in 48^th place with a time of 20:15.

Kara Krulick, Molly Wilkinson, Kenzie Kennard, and Savannah Faris finished 56^th, 63^rd, 64^th, and 80^th respectively, finishing 4^th as a team overall.

Both teams now look to Lubbock, with their next meet the Texas Tech Open on September 18^th.
