During her first year at the helm of the program, Thompson led the team to a 9-18 overall record and 6-15 in conference play.Ā

After her first year at CCU, Thompson was looking to develop individuals more and more, saying, "I wanted to take a step back from last year to this year and just really think about how I want to make each individual player better. There's a lot more coaching involved and a lot more discipline involved in that area."

During the 2023-24 season, Thompson led the team to a 17-12 overall record and 13-9 in conference play followed by a trip to the RMAC tournament, which hadn't been done in 8 years.Ā

Before CCU, sheĀ served as an assistant coach for the women's basketball team at Regis University. During her two seasons with the Rangers program, she played a key role in the squad's recruiting; including the RMAC's co-Freshman of the Year, Erin Fry.Ā

Prior to her role at Regis, Thompson was the women's basketball head coach at Dakota Ridge High School. Ā During her four years, she achieved a pair of state Sweet 16 appearances and helped coach four of her players to compete at the collegiate level.Ā

She is no stranger to the RMAC as she has coached at three different Diane Thompsonconference programs. Along with her time spent at Regis, Thompson was the associate head coach for the women's basketball program at CSU-Pueblo (2005-2007), where she organized player development along with scouting and recruiting for a team that received an NCAA tournament bid in the 2005-06 season.Ā

Thompson also has coached for Fort Lewis (2004-2005) and MSU Denver (2003-2004). In both coaching roles, she played a pivotal role in recruiting game changers to the programs and worked in player commitment and fundraising for the teams.Ā

In addition to her professional coaching experience, she spent several years working in the private sector in the Denver area.Ā

As a player, she was a three time All-American, a three-year captain, three year All-Conference player and set several school records in her time at Cal State Bakersfield (2000-2003). As a part of the team, Thompson helped lead the Roadrunners to two conference championships and an NCAA Tournament Elite Eight appearance. Ā

Thompson earned her bachelors degree in Exercise and Kinesiology. She completed her masters degree from Regis in Business Organization and Leadership.
