Head Women's Soccer Coach
Tammy McPherson was honored by the United Soccer Coaches by being named the National NCCAA DI Women's Soccer Coach of the Year in 2016. She will be in her fifth consecutive year and 13th total year as the Head Coach of the Women's Soccer Program.
Tammy McPherson started her career with Colorado Christian University as a student-athlete, graduating in 1999 as one of the most talented
individuals to ever wear a Colorado Christian uniform. Over the course of her career, McPherson (formerly Wishard) would go on to earn the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Freshman of the Year Award, as well as four first team RMAC All-Conference nods, while ranking first all-time at Colorado Christian in single season points, second in single season goals, second in single season assists, first in career points, first in career assists, and second all-time for career goals scored. Her records as a player remain intact to this day.
McPherson started her coaching career with the Cougars in 2003 when she moved from an assistant position to taking the entire women's soccer program under her wing. In those eight years with the Cougars, McPherson developed a competitive program that competed at a high level in the RMAC, as well as the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) with two NCCAA Regional Championship Titles, as well as her recent 2016 NCCAA National Championship Title.
In 2011, McPherson made the hard decision to leave Colorado Christian and the coaching world in order to assist her husband with humanitarian work in Uganda, Africa. However, after a four year absence, in 2015 McPherson was approached by Colorado Christian Athletics to return as the head women's soccer coach. Once McPherson officially accepted the position she stated: "I missed coaching soccer and the atmosphere at Colorado Christian. I am excited to get back into the competitive environment of sport and even more excited about mentoring and training college athletes again."
In 2015 Colorado Christian Women's Soccer went 0-15-3. However, the transition time did not take long, as the following season (2016) the Lady Cougars went 13-8-3, the most wins in Colorado Christian women's soccer history, while also earning an RMAC Conference playoff berth and their first NCCAA National Championship Title. McPherson said "the success of this season can be attributed to the hard work of the players and the coaching staff, but at the end of the day, it's nothing short of a miracle." Coach lead her Cougars back to the RMAC playoffs in 2018.
Coach McPherson also holds her United Soccer Coaches National, Advanced National, and Premier Licenses. To earn these levels of achievement, coach McPherson dedicated over 120 hours of class and field time.
