Since he took over the Colorado Christian program in 2010, CCU Head Coach
Verlyn Rosenthal has not lost a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament first round match. Unfortunately, that streak came to an end Tuesday night. Though the Cougars upended the Roadrunners of Metro State in four quick sets last weekend, Metro was the better team on Tuesday. CCU lost to MSU in four.
Â
Christian took the night's opening set, winning 25-23 thanks in part to 15 Metro State errors. Up 23-19 in the second, it looked as though Saturday night's history would repeat itself. The home Roadrunners would own the final moments, however, using a 6-0 run to neutralize CCU's match advantage.Â
Â
Though the contest had been a neck-and-neck affair to that point, set three told a completely different story. MSU jumped out to an 8-0 lead they would pile upon for the rest of the frame. In an attempt to stop his team's bleeding, Rosenthal used both time-outs before his team could hang just four points on the board. Unfortunately, the Cougar squad didn't respond, finishing the set with an abysmal -.240 attack percentage and a bleak ten points.
Â
With the momentum in their favor, Metro leaped out to a punishing lead in the fourth. Just scrambling to stay alive, Christian struggled to put a tough ball on the Roadrunners. The result was another uncharacteristically poor offensive showing and a 25-18 set loss.
Â
At the end of the night, Metro's firepower was too much for Colorado Christian to handle. The Roadrunners amassed 60 kills to CCU's 30.

Second Team All-RMAC pick
Kaylee Pierce led the Cougars with 12 kills. Freshman libero
Joelle LeFevre notched a team-best 15 digs.
Â
Now 18-13 on the year, Colorado Christian will turn their focus to the NCCAA Central Region Tournament. They'll travel to Abilene, TX to compete at McMurry University.
