Colorado Christian Soccer turned in a stout defensive game Sunday, but could not hold off the Skyhawks of Fort Lewis College through overtime. The Cougars lost 1-0 in Durango, bringing an end to their 2014 regular season campaign.
Â
Though they faced a mad barrage of shots from the Skyhawks, CCU stood tall through a little more than 90 minutes. Anchored by keeper
Brandon Eide, the Cougars turned back 30 FLC shots – ten of them on goal. Eide entered overtime with nine saves.
Â
Unfortunately, Fort Lewis' shot 29 seconds into the extra period proved the blast that broke the camel's back. Finding the back of the Christian net from four yards out, FLC's Yannis Becker assured the Skyhawks their 11
th win of the season.
Â
While the home team turned in more than two dozen shots, CCU managed just eight – just one of those at Skyhawk goalie Ryan Schaul.
Â
Now 5-13 on the year, the Cougars will turn their focus to the teams of the NCCAA Central Region.
