Colorado Christian Volleyball bounced back into the win column Tuesday, advancing their 2014 record to 17-11 on the year. Their four-set win over Colorado College was a welcome result in the final weekend of regular season play, and marked the 100th career win for CCU Head Coach Verlyn Rosenthal. Rosenthal took just five seasons to reach the milestone.
Christian earned Tuesday's victory after downing CC on their home court. The Cougars took sets one and two to set the tone for the match, cruising behind the play of junior Kaylee Pierce. A heavy handed 25-15 set-one win propelled CCU through the second game, putting the home Tigers on their heels. Though Colorado College would go on to win the next two sets, the Cougars - perfectly comfortable in a fifth frame - controlled the finale, winning 15-10.
Pierce closed out the match with an impressive 23 kill effort, scoring 24.5 points for the Cougars in a dominating show. Teammate Taylor Sturms added 13 kills from the pin to an impressive defensive game that included 20 digs and five blocks.Â
Jackie Arnold also did plenty of work for the Cougars, hitting a solid .400 clip on 12 kills at a new position.Â
Just a couple days of practice remain before the Christian squad draws the curtain on their 2014 regular season campaign. Still sprinting toward the RMAC Championships, CCU will battle tooth and nail against Colorado Mines and Metro State Friday and Saturday at the Event Center.
