Colorado Christian Volleyball downed a visiting Western State squad Friday, winning with a four-set effort that advanced the Cougar record to 10-4 on the year and 4-1 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play.
Though they slipped in the opening set, the CCU squad recovered quickly. A statement 25-9 game-two win balanced the scales, as the home Cougars were again flashing a punishing offensive assault. Impressively, the Christian hitters didn't commit a single error in that set.
With outsides
Ali Weber and
Taylor Sturms leading the way, CCU continued their dominance in the next two sets. Weber and Sturms carried the bulk of the weight at the net, combining for 41 kills and just six errors. The result was a 25-16 win in the third, followed by a 25-21 victory in the final game.
The blue and gold wrapped the match with a .264 attack clip, thanks in part to an efficient 44-assist effort from setter
Jordan Carswell. Freshmen Angie Jurek and
Joelle LeFevre each did their part to lift Christian's defense – Jurek on the block (five) and LeFevre from the back row (18 digs).
"It takes everyone to earn a victory," explained Weber after the match. The senior hit a scorching .432 against the Mountaineers. "Tonight's game was etched by a complete team effort. We all love this game and have big dreams for CCU volleyball!"
The owners of a three-match win-streak, Colorado Christian will wrap the weekend home-stand with a Saturday matinee contest against Colorado Mesa. The Mavericks sit just above CCU in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference standings, and will bring a 10-3 record into the Event Center. Game time is slated for 5pm.
