CCU Men Lose Third-Straight

Colorado Christian Basketball dropped another RMAC contest Saturday, falling 98-75 to Adams State in Alamosa. The decision marked the third-straight loss for the blue and gold, and drops the squad to 9-10 overall and 6-7 in conference play.

CCU never led in the Saturday contest, down from the opening moments to a Grizzly squad that finished the night with a hot 61% offensive efficiency. Unable to generate any kind of momentum, Christian struggled to slow the home team down. ASU dominated the Cougars on the glass, off turnovers, and in the paint, where Adams tallied a 38-6 scoring advantage.

"We are struggling to find any defensive consistency right now," remarked a disappointed Kevin Lubbers after the loss, "we're getting beat as a result. Until we fix that, we'll continue to lose."

While the Grizzlies committed 14 turnovers in their 23-point win, Colorado Christian only came up with four steals. The defense on the other side of the ball, however, made a big impact on the game. ASU tallied an impressive nine blocks to go along with ten steals and 25 defensive boards.

Though CCU shot just 34% from the field, Michael Brown and Wayne McCullough did all they could to lift their squad's sluggish effort. The two combined for six of Christian's nine treys on the night, and tallied 16 and 21 points apiece, respectively.

Tyler Shields added 12 points off the bench to go along with a team-best eight rebounds.

With five weekends left in the regular season, Colorado Christian sits eighth among 14 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams. The Cougars look to advance their position in league standings this weekend. They'll host Western State and Colorado Mesa on Friday and Saturday. CCU lost both match-ups earlier this month, falling to WSCU and CMU on the road by a combined six points.
