The CCU men's soccer team pulled off their first win of the season today in Lakewood, CO. The 1-0 victory over S.D. School of Mines and Technology was a hard-fought team match.
The game started off with great amounts of energy from both squads attacking each other's goal box. With 11 shots on goal in the first period, SDSMT was one up on CCU. Despite this,
Calvin Beck was able to execute the one and only goal of the game in the first half at 31:44. The ball was rapidly deflected off the Hardrocker's goalie, Braeden Federle, and into Beck's feet, where he quickly capitalized to give the Cougars' the lead.
At the start of the second period, Christians' defense was in pristine condition. Kevin Luther had his debut for blue and gold in between the posts. The freshman from Grants Pass, OR, played 45 minutes and had 5 out of the 7 saves by CCU. Nothing was getting past this aggressive defensive line Colorado Christian had produced.
Brandon Eide,
Eduard Shevchuk, and
John Alderman all chipped in to do their part for the team. S.D. Mines had a total of seven shots on goal, and Colo. Christian had four.
The Cougars will be fighting for another W on Sunday, Oct. 4
th against the Regis University Rangers. Kick Off time is 1 PM. Â
