CCU traveled to Denton, Texas on Saturday to take on Texas Woman's University. They jumped out to an early advantage and were able to maintain the advantage throughout to secure the 57-50 victory. Despite having an off night shooting, the Christian defense was able to hold the Pioneer offense in check throughout the game.

The first quarter ended up being the difference in the game as CCU was able to jump out to a big lead early on. They came out on fire from the floor and finished the quarter with a 25-8 advantage over the Pioneers. The Cougs continued the onslaught in the second as they built a 21 point lead, but TWU showed resiliency and went on a run of their own to finish out the quarter and cut the lead down to just 13 points heading into halftime with the score at 33-20. CCU finished the half shooting an impressive 46% from the floor, but struggled from beyond the three point line as they hit just one out of five shots.

TWU continued to chip away at the Cougar lead as the second half started, but CCU never relinquished the lead. Heading into the fourth quarter, it was still an 11 point lead for Colorado Christian but the Pioneers still had a comeback in mind. With only three and a half minutes remaining in the game, TWU tied the game at 50, but the Cougars stayed calm cool and collected as they scored the final seven points in the to seal the victory.

Leading the way offensively was junior
Claire Paxton. She dominated in the paint as she scored a game high 17 points and also added eight rebounds. Sophomore
Alex Nelson also had a good game as she scored 12 points, and hit the only two three pointers in the game for the Cougars.
Ali Meyer was a rebounding machine as she grabbed 14 rebounds in her 35 minutes on the floor.

With the win, the Cougars record improves to 2-1 on the year. Next up for them will be a matchup facing off with Midwestern State University on Sunday afternoon. Tip-off is scheduled for 2PM MST.Â
