Cougars Thrill Again in Final Seconds

Colorado Christian ended the 2015 Thanksgiving Tournament with a 2-0 record, defeating Bethany College on another buzzer beater shot giving them the win with a score of 88-85.

CCU had a consistent first half leading an entire 19 minutes. They went into the locker room with the score 46-44 at half-time. The Cougs struggled shooting threes only going 3-11, two of which sophomore Zach McLemore made for the team. McLemore had 14 points in the first period, and forward Ty McGee right below him with 13 points and five rebounds. Despite blue and gold's 10 turnovers they did lead in free throws shooting 69% from the line and field goals going 50% compared to the Swede's 48%.

The second half looked a lot different for the Cougars as they were down the entire time. It was a mad scramble between the teams in the beginning, but Bethany seemed to run away with the game half way through the period. With six in a half minutes left both teams had double bonus which had the players, coaches, and crowd heated and made for a substitution competition. Colo. Christian turned it around at the two minute mark when the Swedes were ahead by more than 10 points. Sloppy offensive play by Bethany provided several opportunities for the Cougars to get back in the game. With 30 seconds left CCU had tied up the score 85-85.

It was an outstanding day for both McLemore and McGee who had 26 and 24 points respectively. Ty McGee also had 11 rebounds, recording his second double-double in as many nights. Zach McLemore had his biggest three points in the last second when he hit his fourth three pointer and sealed the game for the Cougars.

Men's Basketball will be back at the CCU Event Center on December 5th for their conference opener against Colorado School of Mines. Game time is set for 7 PM.
