Women's Basketball traveled to Alamosa, CO on Friday December 11
th to compete in their second RMAC conference game vs Adams State University. CCU won 73-41 making their record 4-2 overall and 1-1 in conference.
Â
The Cougars opened conference last weekend with a very tough loss in overtime to CSM (64-63). This was a game that got away from CCU, but also resulted in a hard week of practice and ultimately an amazing win vs ASU.
Â
The way blue and gold have been working together as a team on the court is phenomenal this early in the season. Christian has got some talented depth on the bench who scored 31 points against the Grizzlies. Everyone running CCU's side of the court was clean, shooting 51.9%, 38% from three, and 45% from the line. This consistent play was too much for Adams State who struggled on offense going 12-56 FG and 2-16 3FG.
Â
The Lady Cougars juggled points back and forth between the Grizzlies in the first period until at about five minutes CCU ran away with the lead and never lost it. Their biggest gain on ASU was in the 3
rd with eight seconds left being up 33 points. Â
Â
Point leader this game with 14 was newcomer
Alex Nelson, who is a redshirt sophomore transfer from Wayne State College. Nelson went 5-9 FG and 3-7 3FG. Tailing Nelson in points but leading in many other areas was
Ali Meyer with 10 total points, 27 minutes (game high), five rebounds, two blocks (game high), and six steals (game high). Scottish native,
Claire Paxton also scored 10 total points and led in rebounds with eight.
Â
As mentioned earlier, Colorado Christian has much depth this season with every player getting into the ASU game, and every player contributing points to the scoreboard. The Cougars are an unstoppable force that keeps getting stronger.
Â
Coach Time Hays on the night "It was nice to be able to get our entire team on the floor tonight. Every player that stepped on the court contributed in some way. We have plenty to improve on still, but our defense and rebounding is what could set this team a part as the season progresses."
Â
Colorado Christian Women's Basketball will be playing at Fort Lewis College on December 12
th at 5:30 PM MST. You can watch live stats and video through the CCUCOUGARS.com website under schedule.
