Cougars Swat Down Griffins

Colorado Christian Women's Basketball added another victory to their record over Westminster College on Friday night 69-45. They are now 5-3 on the season.

CCU had a strong start against Westminster College on Friday night going 14-8 in the first quarter. It was a solid effort by the Cougars on defense having four steals on Westminster's 10 turnovers. This allowed blue and gold almost double the points on offense.

The second quarter was the same solid play from CCU as they continued to dominate the court. It was back and forth until about half way through at six minutes the teams were tied 15-15, where the Cougs ran away with points. They went into the locker room 28-17.  This quarter is what set the pace for the rest of the competition.

Coming back into the game Colo. Christian utilized their bench and kept the lead with newcomers like Haley Shaner scoring five points and one steal, and Leisha Crawford with four points.  Freshman Chandler Sturms also played a part in the win getting four rebounds and playing eight minutes. Kaitlin Hinch contributed with five assists (game high), and center Maya Brown, transfer Lyndie Pucket, and freshman Ashley Nelson all had buckets from downtown.

CCU shot 43% in field goals, 41% from the three, and 75% from the line.  This over shadowed the Westminster Girffin's who shot 28.6% FG, 22.7% 3FG, and 61.5% FT.

Leading the pack was Claire Paxton scoring 12 points, and right at her heels was Alex Nelson with 11. Senior Kate Louthan grabbed seven rebounds and scored nine points for Christian. Ali Meyer (four rebounds) and Taylor Torres (five rebounds) both contributed seven points in the game.

This was yet again another huge team effort by the Lady Cougars who controlled their home court for the victory.

Christian will be back at the CCU Event Center on Saturday Dec. 19th to play Colorado Mesa University at 5 PM.
