Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

CCU Volleyball Season Comes to a Close

CCU went into day two of the NCCAA National Tournament with high hopes of making it to the championship but fell short to Indiana Wesleyan 3-0 in the semi-final match after beating Southern Wesleyan 3-2 in the last game of pool play.

Colorado Christian started off day two by taking on the #2 seed Southern Wesleyan University (22-8). The match last almost two in a half hours going to five sets. It was a rollercoaster match with each team leading and then dropping points.  SWU took the first set 27-25 hitting a .255 and totaling five blocks as a team. CCU Senior Kaylee Pierce scored seven kills and no errors in this set.

Running off the momentum of Pierce's aggressive offense, blue and gold controlled set two with a score of 25-11 and five service aces, four of which coming from the hand of junior Mollie Bailey who also had the set kill high of five. After defeating themselves in the passing lanes, the Warriors fought back in set three, but fell just short of CCU by three points 25-22.

The fourth set was a catch-up game for Christian as they were down the entire time, and at one point 7-15 until at 19 points they tied it up. It was a combination of relentless serves from the back line that took SWU out of system, and a huge block totaling six to the Warrior's one. Southern Wesleyan was still able to come out on top in this set 25-23.

The end of this match was the same as the other sets, a constant battle back and forth over the net for points. Colo. Christian won 15-13 in the fifth with Senior Kaylee Pierce leading the team in kills (23, 5e, 49att, .367). Outside hitter Mollie Bailey was right behind Pierce with 15 kills, and sophomore DS Joelle LeFevre had the team high in digs equaling 25 followed by libero Joy Kurosawa with 22.

This win put CCU at 20-17 overall and had them set for the semi-final match against Indiana Wesleyan University. IWU won in three sets 25-22, 25-15, and 25-21 to make it to the championship match.

The Cougs had a touch last match at the tournament, struggling against a good team with a lot of depth, which CCU has lacked all year long. Despite the loss, the season ended on a good note, especially with senior Kaylee Pierce getting 13 kills against the Wildcats, and many other players stepping up their volleyball IQ for next season.

What an amazing year it has been for the Lady Cougars as they faced many troubles including injuries throughout the entire season, changes to the staff, juggling school, family, work, and volleyball. This group of young ladies are full of integrity and Faith that can be seen on the court and off. The future for Colorado Christian University Volleyball looks bright and will continue to fight for excellence.

Coach Andria Harshman on the year "This has been a very special first year for me and my staff here at CCU. This team has rose to the occasion every time they have been faced with adversity, and we finished strong as a result of their efforts. I am so proud of our finish even though it's not exactly what we prepared for, I know God has been glorified from our first experience together in Costa Rica to the last point this evening! We will miss our seniors and their leadership but are glad we had the opportunity to call them family."

CCU Volleyball heads back to Lakewood, CO winning eight of their nine post season games, and will start their spring season in March 2016. You can see updates on all social media accounts for CCUCOUGARS!
