A new-look Colorado Christian Baseball team took the field for their opening game of the 2015 season, but fell to Eckerd College 5-2 Friday evening in St. Petersburg, FL.
Â
Freshman
Stephen Galambos opened the scoring and gave the Cougars the lead in the third inning when he singled home
Jerry Gallegos. Unfortunately the Christian offense never got rolling, recording only five hits against nine strikeouts.
Â
Shortstop
Zach Scott made the most of his first game, racking up three of the team's five hits in his CCU debut.
Â
Another making his debut was freshman
Matt Weaver, who got the nod as the starter Friday. The right-hander from Dripping Springs, TX went 6+ innings in his first start, giving up five runs, four of them earned, while striking out three.
Â
It was a solid start for Weaver, who gave up just one run through the game's first four innings before two runs in the fifth and seventh innings chased him from the contest.
Lukas Jorgensen and
Austin Atkerson came on in relief, holding Eckerd hitless while both recorded a strikeout.
Â
The Cougars face the Tritons once more, returning to action tomorrow afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 4 PM.
