Just one night after losing their 2015 opener to Eckerd College, CCU Baseball dropped another to the Tritons. The contest under the lights ended with a 2-0 decision, after nine innings of strong pitching and durable defense from both squads.
Â
There wasn't much action from the plate in the evening affair, as Colorado Christian managed just four hits against Eckerd's trio of pitchers. The home Tritons amassed seven, but scored just twice – both in the third inning.
Â
Freshman
Stephen Galambos led CCU with a 2-for-4 effort, while
Zach Scott and
Brandon Hesselberg each added a hit to round out the offense for the Cougars.
Â
From the hill, pitchers
Ryan Erazo (0-1), Peter McWilliams, and
Danny Graves too care of the work for the blue and gold. Erazo threw for six innings, giving up two earned runs on five hits and striking out two Triton batters.
Â
"I thought we battled hard as a team today, but we came up on the short end," Erazo remarked after the game. "We just have to keep grinding. I felt very good on the mound at this point of the season, and a huge shout-out to Wes (Wiederhold) and my defense for backing me up."
Â
Wiederhold notched three put-outs from his catcher position, throwing out three Eckerd runners on the sneak.
Â
Now 0-2 on the infant season, Colorado Christian will remain in Florida through the next week. The blue and gold will travel to Lake Wales on Monday for an afternoon match-up against Warner University.
