Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

CCU Falls Short in Weather Shortened Match

Weather played a factor in the semi-final match between Colorado Christian and Southwestern Christian University. SCU got off to a fast start as they took the early lead, and eventually won the game by a final score of 3-0. The snow fell in bunches in the second half, which forced the game to be called in the 71st minute due to poor field conditions from the snowfall.

CCU took to the field on Thursday afternoon looking to build momentum on their victory from yesterday. Unfortunately, Southwestern Christian had other ideas. The Eagles scored just two minutes into the game to take the early 1-0 lead. They were not finished in the half, as they scored two more times to take a 3-0 lead heading into the break.

Senior Brandon Eide did everything that he could to keep the Cougars in the game, but the Eagles offensive attack proved to be too much to handle for the defense. Eide finished the game with six saves. Eide finished the year with the highest saves per game average (8.39) in all of division II. Eide had a tremendous career with the Cougars, along with fellow seniors Andrew Sill, Sam Walberer, Nathan Garner, and Quaid Theander. All five of these players will be missed by the program moving forward.

With the loss, the 2016 season has come to a close for CCU. They finished the year 2-18 overall, and were 1-13 in conference play. The record on the year appears worse than the team actually played. They had several close games during the year, but were unable to close them out as they lost six games by one goal, including back to back heartbreaking losses in the final seconds of their last two regular season home games. Moving forward, the team has a strong core which will be vital to the team's improvement heading into the 2017 season.
