CCU lost to #10 West Texas A&M 80-48 in their last preseason game of the 2016-2017 season. The #10 in front of West Texas' name is true to their level of play. CCU was unable to gain any sort of lead on the Buffs.
Â
Texas had done their homework and completely shut down the Cougars top players, forcing blue and gold to utilize their bench. CCU scored 31 bench points compared to the Buffs 29, but Christian could not keep the ball in their possession allowing for 23 turnovers and 37 points off turnovers for TA&M.
Â
There were not enough opportunities for the Cougars to score, and letting go of the ball hurt them the most in the end. Scoring high for CCU was #32
Haley Shaner with 15 points. #10 senior,
Claire Paxton was behind Shaner scoring seven points, and #1 forward,
Alex Nelson had five rebounds.
Â
Despite the rough beginning for Colorado, the Lady Cougs played better in the last two quarters scoring 11-15 in the third and 15-15 in the fourth. They ended playing well, but it took too long to acclimate to the Buffs game.
Â
CCU will be on their home court next weekend, Dec. 2
nd and 3
rd kicking off conference play vs Regis University. Game is set for 5:00 PM.
