Colorado Christian took to their home court on Friday night as they opened up conference play against Regis. It was a close battle back and forth, but in the end, the Rangers came out on top by a final score of 68-63.

CCU had a tough task in front of them on the night as Regis came into the game with a perfect 5-0 record. However, the Cougs jumped out to an early lead and let RU know they were in for a game. After the first quarter, Christian held the lead 17-9.

The second quarter belonged to the Rangers, as they found their offensive rhythm. The Cougars held the lead throughout the majority of the second quarter, but with just over three minutes left in the half, a made three pointer gave Regis the one point advantage. Another made three broke up a tie game and gave RU a three point lead going into the break at 33-30.

The two teams played an even third quarter, with the edge slightly in favor of Regis as they outscored CCU 16-15 in the quarter, which gave them a four point lead heading into the final quarter of play.

Colorado Christian came out in the fourth and began to cut into the deficit. The lead remained slim for Regis until the final few minutes, when
Mikala Gordon made a layup to give the Cougars the lead back 60-59. After the lead went back and forth, a made free throw by the Rangers tied the game up 62-62.

With 30 seconds left in the game, a foul sent
Kaitlyn Hinch to the line. Hinch hit 1-2 to give her team the one point lead. Regis answered as they made a layup to give them the lead. On the ensuing inbounds play, RU came up with a steal and then were immediately fouled. They hit both free throws, and after a missed three by CCU, they went to the line again and hit two more to give them the 68-63 victory.

Claire Paxton and
Alex Nelson finished the game as the team's leading scorer, as each scored 11 point in the game. Paxton also led the team in rebounds by grabbing nine in the game.
Haley Shaner added a spark for CCU off of the bench, as she finished the game with nine points shooting 4-8 from the floor.

With the loss, CCU is now 2-4 on the season, and 0-1 in conference play. The team will be back in action on Saturday night as they take on Chadron State College. The game will be held at the CCU Event Center in Lakewood, with the opening tip set for 5PM MST. Â Â
