Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Cougs Go 2-0 on Day One of Nationals

The Lady Cougs went undefeated on day one of the NCCAA National Tournament winning both matches in three sets. CCU played the #8 seed Bluefield College and then the #5 seed Warner University. This puts blue and gold on a six game winning streak.

In their game against Bluefield, CCU cruised on through three sets towards the victory. The Cougs did not see much pressure from the other side of the court, and was able to have some fun with their lineup and offense. Attack attempts and kills were spread more evenly throughout the team with Taylor Sturms and Sophia Proano both getting nine kills, Angela Jurek seven, and Hope Baldrica and Cali Bahnsen had six. CCU hit a .333% as team compared to Bluefield's -.033%.

Warner University started off strong against the Cougs taking the lead in the first set right away. They gained three points on the Cougs 9-6 until CCU tied it up at nines and took the game from there. The second set was similar with both teams going point for point all the way up until tens, where Christian once again took control of the game. Colorado Christian was able to pull off both the first and the second sets, despite slow starts, but the third was the most stressful for the Cougars.

Warner was relentless in their side outs and did a good job scoring off the Cougar block, but blue and gold had several unforced errors that cause the Tigers to gain a significant lead at 17-14. The tables turned at that moment and WU made three unforced errors putting CCU on top 18-17. Outside Hitter Taylor Sturms finished the game with four consecutive kills for Christian in the end of the third set. Sturms totaled 17 kills in the match and led the Cougs hitting a .500 with only two errors and 30 attempts.  CCU won 25-19.

Colorado Christian will finish up pool play on Friday morning at 8:00 AM MST against the #4 seed Trinity Christian College. Depending on the way they finish will determine what time they will play in the semifinals. Stay updated on ccucougars.com.
