Game Recap: Softball |

Tritons Take Two from Cougars

CCU Softball continued their preseason in Florida traveling to St. Petersburg on Wednesday afternoon to face the Eckerd College Tritons in a double header. The Lady Cougars were flat at the plate as they lost game one 4-2 and game two 8-3.

It was a strong start for Christian who scored two runs in the first frame. Freshman Carly Perry stepped up to the plate and hit one out of the park. With Charlotte Romero already on base from catcher's interference, Perry would get two RBI.  Unfortunately those would be the only points put on the scoreboard for that game.

The Tritons went on to score a home run in the second inning and then a three RBI home run in the sixth winning them the game 4-2. The Cougars had a combined total of four hits and six strike outs. Tana Feiner was on the mound for blue and gold and threw six innings with eight hits, four earned runs, and five strike outs.

"Tana threw a good game, but we didn't score again after the first inning," said Head Coach Daven Bond. "It's hard to pitch without any run support."

The second game ran off Eckerd's momentum earning them five runs in the bottom of the second. The Triton bats were on fire shooting off hit after hit. The first run by CCU was scored in the third off of a single by Charlotte Romero. Hanna Farmer was able to advance to second off an error by the Tritons putting her in scoring position. The second run was in the fourth for the Cougs who ran Kristina Billante in off Shelby Diffenderfer's single hit down the center.

The Tritons put three more on the board in the fifth and sixth and CCU was able to get one more in the top of the seventh hit by Hanna Farmer.  The Cougars had a silent six hits and pitcher Jennie Winston came out with the loss (0-3) playing two innings giving up six hits, five runs, four of which were earned. Shelby Diffenderfer also took the mound for four innings with seven hits, three earned runs, and two strike outs.

"We struggled offensively tonight and just couldn't get the bats going. We have to have a much better approach at the plate if we expect to win. We will work hard tomorrow to get ready for Friday." –Bond

Colorado Christian Softball will be playing a double header against Florida Southern College on Friday February 12th. Game time is set for 3:00 PM MST.
