Softball Comes Home After Tough Losses

Softball faced the 6-0 Saint Leo Lions on Saturday afternoon and dropped both games 7-0 and 9-1. It was a tough preseason in Florida facing many talented teams. The Cougars will come home with a record of 1-9. Coach Bond on the week, "We learned a lot in Florida and we are excited to start conference play."

It was a very flat day at the plate with six combined hits in game one and two, scoring only one run. The Cougars hibernating offense did not allow alot of opporutnities for the Cougs to score. It was almost impossible to win games with no momentum from the hitters.

Defensively CCU did the best they could, and only had two errors on the day. Unfortunately, Saint Leo was not letting up in either areas on the plate or in the field, so the Cougs were not able to make a comeback of any sort.

"Saint Leo is really talented and will win a lot of games this year," said Coach Daven Bond. "They came out ready to play in their home opener. We struggled to have any consistency at the plate and our pitching faced a tough lineup."

Cougar pitching struggled against the Lions. Saint Leo had nine hits and seven earned runs off of Tana Feiner in the first game. Jennie Winston took the loss in the second giving up seven hits and seven earned runs in the bottom of the fourth (run rule was applied and they ended at five innings).

Christian's run of the day was scored in the top of the third. It was a double hit by Hanna Farmer, allowing Stephanie Tatham, who was stuck at second, to cross home plate.

Colorado Christian Softball will be playing their home opening games next weekend February 20th & 21st at Lakewood Park. They are taking on the CSUP Thunderwolves and first pitch is set for Saturday at noon.
