Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Cougars Down Mountaineers

Women's Basketball was on the road this weekend dropping Friday night's game against CSUP, but then coming out with a victory vs Western State on Saturday night. The Cougars won 68-54 earning them their 18th win of the season. They are now 18-7 overall and 16-6 in conference.

Western State was able to grab hold of the lead right away dominating the first quarter of the game. They came out 7-0 in the first two minutes adding more points every time CCU scored. The Cougars were finally able to catch up to the Mountaineers half-way through the second quarter.

It was a team effort by the Cougars that had them tied at 23-23. They then were able to take the lead with a rare Ali Meyer three pointer. Western would equalize the game again at 26 points, but Christian would break-off again and never allow WSCU to get ahead. Colo. Christian went into the locker room scoring double the amount of points Western did in that quarter (14-7) and being up 30-26.

Western's shooters were able to keep them in the game which prevented CCU from taking a comfortable lead. The third quarter would never be out of reach for the Mountaineers, but blue and gold stayed consistent on offense while WSCU started a downward spiral. The third quarter ended 47-40 CCU.

The Lady Cougars did end up attaining a comfortable ten-point lead over the Mountaineers in the fourth quarter. Western could not find the hoop like they were in the beginning of the game. Christian had their largest lead of 15 points with three in-a-half minutes left (63-48). CCU ended up winning the game 68-54.

CCU racked up 12 more rebounds than the Mountaineers thanks to the 24 turnovers blue and gold produced. The Cougars outrebounded Western 43-31. Ali Meyer had another double double on the night with 11 rebounds and 14 points. Meyer also had two blocks on the night. Kate Louthan also racked up 14 points with four assists, six rebounds, one block, and one steal. Alex Nelson scored 14 for the Cougs as well.

It was not an impressive shooting night for either team. CCU shot 48% from the field, 19% from three, and 79% from the line. Pueblo outshot Christian from three at 24%.

Colorado Christian Women's Basketball will be playing their last scheduled conference game on Feb. 26th at Colorado School of Mines. Tip-off is set for 6 PM.
