Colorado Christian faced off against Adams State in a doubleheader on Friday, which opened up a four game series between the two teams. The Cougars came out on the losing end of two close games however, as they lost game one by a final score of 6-3, and lost game two 5-3. Adams State displayed their power offensively in both games as they combined to hit four homeruns total on the day. CCU had their chances to take control in both games, but was unable to come up with the clutch hit at the right time.
Â
Game One:The first game on the day began favorably for the Cougars as their offense gave them an early lead in the bottom of the first inning thanks to a hard hit ground ball to third base which was misplayed and allowed the first run of the game to come across. Adams State answered in the top of the second as a solo homerun tied the game 1-1. The score remained the same until the bottom half of the third inning when
Charlotte Romero led off the inning with a line drive double over the head of the Grizzlies right fielder.
Carly Perry came up next and delivered a double of her own which scored Romero and gave them the lead back. Later in the inning
Kristina Billante drove in Perry when she smoked a single up the middle, giving the Cougars a two run advantage 3-1. Unfortunately the lead did not last, as Adams went on to score five unanswered runs to finish the game and give them the victory over the Blue and Gold.
Â
Offensively, CCU had three players finish with multiple hits in the game.
Charlotte Romero finished 2-3 with two doubles and two runs scored,
Carly Perry went 2-4 with one run and RBI, and
Kristina Billante went 2-3.
Â
Game Two:Adams State began the second game by scoring two runs in the first inning to jump out to an early 2-0 lead. The Cougars answered with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the first inning off of a single from
Michaela Barr which scored
Hanna Farmer and
Charlotte Romero which tied up the game. Adams scored one more run in the second inning to give them a 3-2 lead. Both pitchers settled down over the course of the next few innings but CCU finally got the Grizzlies pitcher in the fifth inning once again thanks to
Michaela Barr. Barr had an RBI groundout which scored
Carly Perry from third base, and tied up the game heading into the sixth inning. Adams scored a single run in both the sixth and seventh innings which was enough to give them the victory 5-3.
Â
Michaela Barr finished the game 1-3 with two RBI.
Carly Perry went 1-2 with a run scored and did a great job setting the table for her teammates as she also drew two walks in the game.
Â
The Cougars record now drops to 5-19 on the year, and 4-10 in conference play. They will be back in action on Sunday as they will be playing another doubleheader against Adams State as they will be trying to split the series with them. First pitch for the game tomorrow is scheduled for 11AM MST, and will be played at Lakewood Park. Â Â
