Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

CCU Continues Towards Championship

The CCU Women's Basketball team finished up the NCCAA Regional Tournament last Friday, March 11th as the Champions and #1 seed going into the National Tournament. The Cougs traveled to Winona Lake, IN to compete against the #8 seed, Bluefield College, in the first-round of the championship tournament. CCU would win the game in overtime 75-70.

Bluefield had an overall record of 20-11 coming into the tournament, and Colorado Christian was 21-9. The last three games, the Cougars have gone into overtime, which shows the high level of competition CCU has faced in the NCCAA post-season.

CCU senior Kate Louthan absolutely dominated the court scoring 30 points. Louthan went 8-13 from the field, and 1-1 from downtown, which was the amazing last bucket CCU needed to tie up the game and go into overtime (68-68). Defensively, Louthan had eight rebounds, and four blocks.

"It was not a very pretty game, but in overtime we finally came together, fought hard, and pulled out a win. Bluefield did a great job sitting in a zone the whole time, and that initially threw us off." –Kate Louthan's comments on the game.

CCU started the game off in the lead, but then quickly lost it in the second quarter due to the Rams shooting game from the three. Christian went into halftime down two points 35-33. From there the Cougars were able to tie up the game two times in the third at 50s, and then 51s, but were still not able to gain back the lead. Bluefield continued to run the court keeping a 4-5 point gain on the Cougs, but it was one crucial three that would tie the game up, and give CCU another chance. A point wasn't scored until half way through overtime, where Kate Louthan was fouled on and scored on two free throws. From there, BC would catch up at 70s, but then a three from Kaitlyn Hinch, and a few more points off Ram fouls would give the Cougs the win at 75-70.

Colorado Christian will continue towards the Championship playing Thursday, March 17th at 3:15 MST vs Oklahoma Baptist University.
