Lopers Stand Tall in Double-Header

Colorado Christian traveled to Kearney, Nebraska to take on University of Nebraska-Kearney in a four game series which kicked off today with a doubleheader. The Cougars were unable to come away with a victory on the day as they lost game one 8-6, and game two 12-1.

Today was the third straight day in which the team had played a doubleheader after their series with Regis was pushed back to Sunday and Monday, so fatigue was a factor in the outcomes on the day. CCU ace Tana Feiner, had to leave the first game in the second inning after injuring her throwing hand as she was fielding a comebacker. Despite the odds, the team never gave in, and gave their best efforts throughout both games on the day.

UNK got the scoring going in the bottom half of the first inning in game one as they put CCU in an early hole 4-0. Christian fired back in the second inning when Amy Edison launched a three run home run deep to left center to bring her team back within one. CCU got the equalizer in the next inning when Letty Valenzuela laced a double into the gap. The Lopers regained the lead in the bottom half of the third inning as they scored one more run to make it 5-4 heading into the fourth inning. UNK kept the momentum on their side in the fourth as they scored three more ties to give them the 8-4 advantage. Colorado Christian tried to rally back late as they scored two runs in the fifth inning. CCU was able to get the tying run to plate in the seventh inning, but a hard hit ball turned into a game ending double play, and sealed the loss for the Lady Cougars.

The second game was all UNK as they scored 12 runs on 12 hits. CCU fell victim to the big inning as the Lopers did all of their scoring in just two innings as they put up seven runs in the second inning, and five runs in the third. The Kearney pitching staff held the Cougars to just two hits in the second game. The lone run came off the bat of Carly Perry who hit a single back up the middle, which scored Hanna Farmer who had singled earlier in the inning.

With the losses, the Cougars are now 6-26 on the year. They will be back in action tomorrow morning as they square off with UNK for the final two games of the series. First pitch will be at 11AM MST.
