The Colorado Christian Cougars had a victorious weekend series against Western New Mexico and UC-Colorado Springs, winning both games against the Mustangs, and splitting with the Mountain Lions. CCU started day two off with a win against WNMU 6-2, but fell short of the sweep 9-0 to UCCS.

Improvements from the plate and mound both gave blue and gold the upper hand this weekend.
Shelby Diffenderfer, a freshman from Tucson, AZ, had her breakout weekend pitching in every game, totaling 23 innings. Diffenderfer (3-6) took both wins on Thursday, and the single victory on Friday. In game three against the Mustangs, Diffenderfer pitched seven innings, giving up six hits and two runs, striking out three. The single loss of the series would go to Diffenderfer as well pitching 2.1 innings, giving up eight hits and five runs, striking out three.

Christian scored their first run of the day in the top of the second frame as
Michaela Barr crossed home plate off a wild pitch by the Stangs.
Amy Edison was also able to advance to third off the wild pitch and then run in from a sac fly by
Stephanie Tatham. The Cougs now led 2-0. Western NM inched their way on the scoreboard, scoring one run in the third and then another in the fourth equalizing the game at twos.

In the top of the fifth inning, the Cougars scored three more runs.
Kristina Billante and
Charlotte Romero hit consecutive doubles down the left field line allowing
Hanna Farmer, and Billante herself to score. Once again,
Michaela Barr stepped up to the plate and smashed one to the left side, sending
Charlotte Romero home. CCU had five hits in the fifth and left two on base. The score was now 5-2 CCU.

Stephanie Tatham scored the last run off of a
Charlotte Romero ground out to second base. Colorado Christian shut down WNMU in the bottom of the sixth and seventh with six easy outs, and won the game 6-2. CCU had 13 hits, adding to their 25 hits on day one.
Charlotte Romero led the Cougs going 3-4 with one run and two RBI's.

The last game of the series was against UCCS and did not fare well for the Cougs who only had three hits, with two fielding errors, and allowed the Mountain Lions three home runs. CCU lost 9-0.

Despite the dreary end to their weekend, the Cougars were triumphant overall. The next three series will be played at blue and gold's home field at Lakewood Park. Next series is against Metro State on April 1
st starting at noon.
