The CCU Women's Basketball conference season has come to a close with a loss in the RMAC Playoff Semi-Final match against CSU-Pueblo on Friday night. The Thunderwolves downed the Cougars 68-54 in a brutal, non-existent offensive game for blue and gold.
Â
Despite the loss head coach
Darren Richie stated "We had a great year after so much adversity! Tonight we struggled shooting the ball but the team played hard."
Â
The Lady Cougars have always worked hard on the court and been a very disciplined team defensively and offensively. Unfortunately, the one game all season where their offense stalled was the playoff game to get into the RMAC Championship.
Â
CCU trailed behind Pueblo ranging from five to ten points as the minutes ran down. The first quarter ended 21-16 with the Thunderwolves in charge. The second quarter was a draw, both teams scoring nine points. CCU came within their closest reach of three points to CSUP in the start of the third quarter 30-27.
Kaitlyn Hinch hit a jumper, but then CCU quickly turned the ball over and Pueblo executed off of it. CSUP scored 21 points to the Cougs 15 in the third quarter, and then 17-14 in the fourth.
Â
Colo. Christian played very un-character like. Three of the Cougars top scorers were non-existent in the game, being shut down by the Thunderwolves defense. CSU-Pueblo had 48 rebounds compared to CCU's 31. CSUP took care of the ball and protected their side well. Christian shot 34% from the field, 23% from three, and 60% from the line.
Â
Cougar center,
Ali Meyer was the top scorer for the night and had another double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Meyer also had two blocks and two steals.
Ali Meyer has had a great season being the #2 rebounder in the RMAC, averaging 8.7 a game.
Kaitlyn Hinch scored 11 points for CCU and had two steals on the night.
Taylor Torres and
Claire Paxton both had nine points, and
Kate Louthan with eight.
