CCU Swept on the Day

The Cougars took on Colorado Mesa for a doubleheader on Saturday, but were unable to walk away with a victory as they lost game one by a final score of 11-0, and game two 6-0. Mesa used timely hitting and solid pitching to get past Colorado Christian, as they were unable to produce any offense on the day.

Game One:
Matt Weaver got the start in game one as he had the task of squaring off with the talented Maverick lineup. Mesa was able to get one run in the first, but Weaver did a good job of maneuvering out of danger as he was able to limit the damage by leaving the bases loaded. The score remained 1-0 in favor of Mesa until the fourth inning when the flood gates opened and the Mavericks began their assault. They added 10 more runs in the remaining four innings to finish off the 11-0 CCU defeat.

Brandon Hesselberg had a good game at the plate as he finished 2-3. CCU was only able to scratch out two more hits against the Mesa pitching staff.

Game Two:
Unfortunately game two turned out to be a continuation of game one. The CCU bats remained dormant as they were only able to get two hits in the second game. Mesa scored a single run in the second, third, and fourth inning, before they put the game out of reach by scoring three runs in the fifth inning.

The Cougars are now 5-11 on the year and 0-3 in conference play. They will be taking on Mesa for the final game of their series on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 12PM MST at All Star Park in Lakewood, CO.
