Cougars Open 2016 Season in Pueblo

The Men and Women's Track and Field teams were able to compete this Saturday, April 2nd at the CSU-Pueblo Pack Classic. After two consecutive cancelled meets, the Cougar squad was itching to get on the track and compete.

It was a great breakout meet for CCU, with several athletes standing out in the rankings. Finishing at the top, senior Evan Verbal took first overall in the 1500 meter run with a time of 03:59:09. Verbal has been one of the Cougars top runners throughout his career at CCU, and continues to dominate his field.

On the women's side, Brooke Genovese finished fifth in the 1500 meter run with a time of 04:53:93. Also for the Lady Cougs, Shawna Nelson, a sophomore from Arkansas, participated in the first ever discus throw for Colorado Christian. Nelson finished 18th/22 throwing 32.78 meters.

Another track and field milestone for CCU was being a part of the 400 meter hurdles where CCU's own Jonah Couture finished 8th/11 with a time of 1:00:58.

"It was a great start to an exciting 2016 season," said head coach Jon Poag. "With this being the second year to the CCU track and field program, I am extremely proud and impressed with the team and how they finished at the meet. Evan continues to impress, and I am so happy for him on his senior year success. I am looking forward to the rest of the season and to see how our team progresses."

The Cougs will be competing at the CU Invitational next Saturday, April 9th in Boulder, CO.
